The problem

Mileage apps start tracking today. Your tax return is about last year.

The deadline doesn't move

Self Assessment for 2025/26 is due on 31 January 2027. If you drove for work and kept no log, you either guess, skip the claim, or spend evenings matching statements to diary entries.

GPS apps can't help

They record journeys from the day you install them. The months you already drove stay blank.

A guess won't stand up

If HMRC asks, you need dates, places, purpose and miles. A round number in a spreadsheet is not a record.

How it works

From evidence to a finished log in one evening

  1. Add what you already have

Drop in your bank statement, calendar and receipt photos. Set your base postcode and vehicle once.

    CSV · OFX · QIFMonzoStarlingMettleLloydsBarclaysHSBCNatWestSantander.ics calendarreceipt photos
  2. Review each proposed day

Merchants and appointments become places. Each day becomes a route from your base and back, with road miles, a purpose and a confidence level. Approve it, edit it, or mark it as personal.

  3. Export your log

Get a PDF log for HMRC, plus a file ready to import into your accounts software.

    PDF logFreeAgentXeroQuickBooksSageCSVExcel
  • DuplicateTwo entries for the same place on the same day get flagged.
  • Typo200 miles where the map says 20? You'll see it before it goes in.
  • AbroadDays with foreign-currency spending or flights are held back from the log.
  • CommuteRegular trips to one permanent workplace are flagged, because HMRC treats them as private.

What your miles are worth

The rate went up this year. Your records need to keep up.

HMRC raised the approved rate for cars and vans from 45p to 55p a mile for 2026/27, backdated to 6 April 2026. ProveMyMiles applies the right rate to each tax year automatically.

Tax yearFirst 10,000 milesAbove 10,000700 business miles
2025/26 return due 31 Jan 202745p25p£315
2026/2755p25p£385

Figures are the mileage amount you can claim, not the tax you save. Self-employed: an allowable expense if you use simplified expenses for that vehicle. Employees paid less than the approved rate: you can claim tax relief on the difference. If you claim actual van costs instead, you still need a log to split business and private use, and ProveMyMiles gives you that split.

Who it's for

People who drive for work and do their own paperwork

Self-employed and sole traders

Trades, cleaners, gardeners, mobile hairdressers. Rebuild the year before your return, then keep the log going.

Carers and agency workers

Paid less than the approved rate? A log with dates, postcodes and purposes backs up your claim for tax relief on the difference.

Accountants and bookkeepers

Clients who arrive with a carrier bag of receipts instead of a mileage log.

Multi-client licence coming later

Privacy

Your bank statement stays on your computer

Everything is worked out inside your browser. We never connect to your bank, we never ask for a bank login, and your statement, calendar and receipts are never uploaded to us or anyone else.

  • Files are read on your device and nowhere else
  • Receipt text is read on your device too
  • We only ever see your email and your licence

Honesty

It never makes up a trip

Every proposed trip comes from something real: a payment, an appointment, a receipt. Trips without evidence are clearly marked. You approve each one, and the finished log says it was reconstructed from evidence.

  • The evidence is listed next to every entry
  • Personal trips are one click to remove
  • Not tax advice: you stay in charge of what you claim

Questions

Before you pre-order

Is it allowed to rebuild a mileage log after the fact?

Yes, as long as it is based on real evidence and you are honest about how it was made. HMRC wants an accurate record of business journeys. ProveMyMiles only proposes trips it can link to a payment, appointment or receipt, labels the log as reconstructed from evidence, and lets you remove anything you are unsure about.

What does the log contain?

For every journey: date, start and end postcode, purpose, business miles, and the evidence it is based on. Totals per tax year at the right rate, with the 10,000-mile threshold handled for you.

Is ProveMyMiles approved by HMRC?

HMRC doesn't approve mileage apps. The log includes the details HMRC asks for when you claim mileage. This is not tax advice; if you're unsure what you can claim, ask an accountant.

Do I need to connect my bank?

No. You download a statement file from your online banking and open it in ProveMyMiles. It is read inside your browser and never sent to us.

I bought my van through the business. Is this still useful?

If you claim actual van costs instead of the mileage rate, you still need to show how much of the driving was for business. The log gives you business miles and total miles, so you can work out the split.

What happens when I pre-order?

You pay £29 and get an email straight away with your licence key and a short welcome guide. When early access opens in December, we email you the link to the app and you enter your key. Until you activate it, you can ask for a full refund for any reason. When you activate, you'll be asked to confirm you want access straight away.

Do I need to download or install anything?

No. ProveMyMiles runs in your web browser at app.provemymiles.co.uk. Nothing to install, and nothing in an app store. Your files are opened in the browser on your own computer and never uploaded.

Does it work on a phone?

It is built for a laptop or desktop browser, where it's easier to work through a year of statements. Phone support comes later.
